PAUL W. DAVIES, M.D.
Paul W. Davies, M.D., is board certified in pain management. He is one of the few fellowship trained pain specialists in the country. Dr. Davies was a post-doctoral fellow in pain management at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He earned his medical degree from the University of Manchester, England and has done residencies at the University of Pittsburgh, Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, and Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. He has been published recently in both Maryland Family Doctor Magazine and Maryland Physicians Magazine. Dr. Davies was selected as one of “America’s Top Physicians” by the Consumer Research Council of America and voted What’s Up Annapolis magazine TOP DOC by his peers in 2009. In addition to serving as the Honorary Chair for Hospice of the Chesapeake, Dr. Davies is on the advisory board of Maryland Physicians Magazine and an active supporter of the Arthritis Foundation. He was awarded a Citation of Merit: City of Annapolis for providing free health care to the medically underserved in Anne Arundel County. He is the founder and CEO of KURE Pain Management, a multidisciplinary pain management practice with locations in MD.
DAMEAN FREAS, D.O. – Executive Vice President, KURE Pain Management
Damean Freas, D.O., is board certified and fellowship trained in pain medicine. He attended Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and performed his medical residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Pennsylvania. His fellowship training was completed at Beth Israel Medical Center in Manhattan.
Dr. Freas was voted What’s Up Annapolis and What’s Up Eastern Shore magazine TOP DOC by his peers in 2011.
Dr. Freas specializes in intervention therapies such as epidural injections, joint injections, nerve blocks and EMG/NCV tests. Dr. Freas was recently selected as one of “America’s Top Physicians” by the Consumer Research Council of America. He is currently the elected President in Maryland’s Chapter of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians.
STEVE SHANNON, M.D.
Steve Shannon, M.D., is board certified in pain management, in physical medicine and rehabilitation, as well as in electro diagnostic medicine (EMG studies) – he is also certified in medical acupuncture for pain management. Steve Shannon, M.D., was a Colonel in the Army Medical Corps when he retired in 2003 after 20 years of service. He earned his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland and did his PM&R residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He received numerous awards in the Army, including a research award for his work in studying Myofascial Pain Syndrome.
Steve Shannon, M.D., is skilled in many techniques designed to treat all types of chronic and cancer pain including complementary treatments such as acupuncture, prolotherapy, botulinum toxin injections, and ETOIMS (electrical twitch-obtaining intra-muscular stimulation). These modalities help many patients with chronic pain without the adverse side effects of medication.
KAMRAN A. SARAF, M.D.
Dr. Saraf is board certified and fellowship trained in Pain Management. Originally from Maryland, Dr. Saraf completed Medical School and his Anesthesiology residency at the University of Miami, Miami FL. He obtained a Master of Science in Physiology and Biophysics from Georgetown University. He went on to pursue a fellowship in Pain Management at the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA in 2010. Dr. Saraf is a recipient of the Maryland Senatorial Scholarship and the University of Miami Academic Achievement Scholarship. He was inducted into multiple national honor societies and served on various boards and committees throughout his medical education. He speaks three (3) languages and is medically fluent in Spanish. Dr. Saraf will work in Glen Burnie and Annapolis.
DORIS K. COPE, MD
Dr. Cope is double-board certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine, a life member of the Academy of Anesthesiology and has been listed among the “Best Doctors in America” every year since 1998.
She is one of the top pain doctors in the United States and has been featured on national television, radio and featured in numerous magazines and newspapers.
Dr. Cope led one of the top pain medicine programs in the country at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), serving as a professor in the department of anesthesiology. She has written dozens of articles and abstracts on anesthesiology, chronic pain and pain medicine in top medical journals.
FRANK BENDER, M.D.
Dr. Bender is double Board Certified in PM&R and the Sub Specialty of Pain. His most recent appointment was at the NeuroMedical Center in Baton Rouge, LA. He attended the Medical College of Wisconsin. He completed his Fellowship in PM&R / Pain Intervention at the University of Pennsylvania affiliated hospitals in 2006. He holds a faculty position in the Department of Rehab Medicine at Ohio State University. He was in the Army and Air National Guards. He enjoys Triathlons, Cycling and Road Racing.
JANAK VIDYARTHI, M.D.
Dr. Vidyarthi is a Diplomat in Pain Medicine, Psychiatry and Neurology. He is a member of the International Spine Intervention Society and the American Academy of Pain Medicine.
Dr. Vidyarthi obtained his Medical Degree from The Pennsylvania State College of Medicine. He went on to complete his Fellowship in Interventional Pain Management at The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in PA.
Dr Vidyarthi is the recipient of multiple awards in the areas of patient care, academics and humanitarian service. He enjoys charity fundraising for the YMCA, diabetes, cancer, cystic fibrosis and AIDS. He also enjoys photography.
ANNELIESE S. GREKSA, C.R.N.P.
Anneliese Greksa, C.R.N.P., was born in Canada where she started her nursing career. Since moving to the States, Anneliese worked at Anne Arundel Medical Center as a registered nurse. Anneliese continued her education at the University of Maryland where she earned a Master’s degree in Science and qualified as a nurse practitioner. Anneliese brings experience as a nurse practitioner from the fields of internal medicine, rheumatology and pain management.
EARLE GREY, PA-C
Earle Grey, PA-C obtained his degree in Sports Medicine from St. Andrews College in North Carolina in 1997. Upon graduation, Earle worked as an Exercise Physiologist at the Bennett Institute for Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation in Baltimore, running the Pulmonary and Cardiac Rehabilitation Programs. From there he became the Clinical Coordinator of the Cardiac Rehab Program at the Central Maryland Rehabilitation Center in Columbia, Maryland, before entering Physician Assistant school in 2001.
Earle completed his Physician Assistant training at Anne Arundel Community College in 2003. He went on to work at Good Samaritan Hospital in Baltimore for 4 years as a surgical PA. He then joined Maryland Brain & Spine in early 2007, spending the last three years in Neurosurgery. Earle has extensive experience in the operating room assisting a multitude of subspecialties to include: neurosurgery, orthopedic, vascular, urology, gynecology, plastics, thoracic, general, and podiatry.
Earle specializes in identifying disorders of the spine and musculoskeletal system. His treatments use the latest diagnostic technologies, minimally invasive procedures that include trigger point, intra-articular, and ultrasound guided injections. He treats pain utilizing multiple modalities, initiates appropriate surgical referrals, and understands a patient’s needs in the pre, peri, and postoperative courses of treatment.
AMIT PATEL, PA-C
Amit Patel, PA-C obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from The College of New Jersey. He went on to earn his Masters Degree in Health Sciences from Lock Haven University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. Amit was a member of Pi Alpha National Honor Society at Lock Haven, which is comprised of the top 15% of Physician Assistant students. Amit was also a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Golden Key National Honor societies.
Amit has completed over 2,500 hours in clinical rotations including Internal Medicine, Family Practice and Pediatrics, Cardiology, General Surgery, and Emergency Medicine. In 2009, he joined the Chesapeake Pain Center in Bel Air, MD where he examined, diagnosed, and treated patients with varying pain and orthopedic complaints.
CHRIS HOFFMANN, MPT
Chris Hoffmann, MPT graduated from University of Maryland, College Park in 1995. He went on to obtain his Masters in Physical Therapy from the University of Maryland, Baltimore in 1998. Since then Chris has worked for Central Maryland Rehabilitation Center starting as a staff therapist and eventually becoming the Executive Director.
Chris is a golf certified therapist, has completed many manual therapy courses through the University of St. Augustine in Florida, works with general orthopedic and sports medicine conditions, and has additional training in foot and ankle with expertise in custom foot orthoses.
Chris is recognized through the American Backpain Center for completing his training in Strategic Orthopedics that involves focus and detail in successfully managing cervicothoracic and lumbo-pelvic pain, and migraine headaches. Chris brings a new set of treatments to KURE Pain Management using brand new, advanced, state of the art Physical Therapy equipment including the Triton DTS Traction System (one of the most sophisticated traction devises on the market today), Nu-Step and Recumbent Bike. He specializes in headaches, cervical, lumbar and sacroiliac spine pain, postoperative orthopedic conditions and tennis and golf elbow.
JOSH BIGELOW, DPT
Josh Bigelow, DPT graduated from High Point University in North Carolina in 2004. He went on to obtain his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Maryland at Eastern Shore in 2008 where he presented his doctoral thesis on Balance Confidence in Elderly Adult Males at the National Physical Therapy Convention in Nashville, TN. He went on from there to work as a staff physical therapist for Shore Health Systems and eventually becoming the lead physical therapist at an outpatient clinic specializing in pain management.
With his extensive knowledge base in balance related disorders, vestibular pathologies, pain related syndromes, and sport/orthopaedic injuries, Josh brings a personable and thorough approach to every patient he treats. His advanced training includes:

- Sports Medicine/Sport specific rehabilitation
- Advanced Manual Techniques and Joint Mobilizations for spine and extremities
- Advanced Treatment of Various Vestibular and Balance Pathologies
