Acupuncture is an alternative medicine with ancient roots in Eastern medicine. Medical acupuncture refers to the practice of acupuncture by a licensed physician. Acupuncture involves strategic insertion and manipulation of needles in various parts of the body to relieve a number of conditions including back pain, fibromyalgia, headache and carpal tunnel syndrome.

In addition, acupuncture therapy signals the release serotonin, which has an antidepressant effect, and cortisol, a steroid found naturally in the body with anti-inflammatory properties.
